How do I make a cursive writing worksheet?
Type your text into the box, choose the options you want, and the PDF downloads immediately. There is no account to create and no font to install. The generator builds a full practice sheet around whatever you typed: the top row is written in solid ink as the example to copy, and every row below it repeats the same text as dashed letters to trace, all sitting on the three-line guides children are taught to write between.
Four things are yours to set. Letter case decides whether the text prints exactly as you typed it, with a capital first letter, in all lowercase or in all capitals. Letter size and the number of practice rows trade size against repetition: fewer, bigger rows for a child who is still forming the letters, more and smaller rows once the shapes are secure. Stroke direction arrows add a green start dot and a left-to-right arrow on every line, showing where the pencil starts and which way it travels. If your text is long, the letters shrink automatically so it always fits the page.
How it works
- Type any word, name or short sentence (up to 40 characters)
- Pick the case, the letter size, how many rows to trace, and whether you want direction arrows
- Click the button, print the PDF, and start practicing
Frequently asked questions
What cursive font do these worksheets use?
Playwrite US Trad, the traditional US school handwriting style. It is a real teaching font, not a decorative script, so the letterforms and the joins match what children are actually taught to write in class. Every sheet on this site that shows cursive uses the same font, so nothing contradicts itself.
Can I make a cursive worksheet from a full sentence?
Yes, up to 40 characters, which comfortably fits a short sentence such as "The quick brown fox". The generator measures your text and shrinks the letters to fit the width of the page, so a long sentence prints smaller rather than running off the edge. For single letters, use the A to Z cursive letter pages instead.
What are the stroke direction arrows for?
They answer the two questions children get wrong most often: where do I start, and which way do I go. The green dot marks the starting point of the row and the arrow runs left to right beneath it. Turn them off once the child no longer needs the prompt, and the sheet prints clean.
What age is cursive handwriting for?
Most schools introduce cursive around ages 7 to 9, once print letters are automatic and pencil control is steady. If the child is still reversing print letters or gripping hard, work on print tracing and pre-writing patterns first: cursive asks for continuous, joined movement, which is a harder skill to start from cold.
Is it free to use for a whole class?
Yes. Generate as many sheets as you like, print unlimited copies, and use them in a classroom, homeschool, library, tutoring or therapy setting at no cost. There is no watermark and no limit. The only things you cannot do are sell the sheets or re-upload the PDFs to another site.
Do you store the text I type?
No. The worksheet is generated on the spot and the text is never saved. All we keep is an anonymous count of how many sheets were made and how long the text was, with no words attached to it, so we can see whether the tool is being used at all.
