How do you teach the sight word “and”?
Say “and” naturally, stretch it only once, and bring its print into view. Hearing, seeing and writing “and” should happen in that order.
“And” has 3 letters: a-n-d. Read “Ben and Mia read.” and “I can hop and run.” aloud, then ask the child to point to “and” before tracing or copying it.
Finish by asking for a new spoken sentence containing “and”. A sensible use shows knowledge of the word, not merely its shape.
