Addition facts
Three addition sheets that grow by place value: facts inside twenty first, then two digit sums ending at exactly 100, then three digit sums up to 1000. Carrying starts on the second sheet.
Addition facts, practice 1
Forty addition facts that never pass twenty, from 3 + 5 up to 1 + 19, thirteen of them crossing the ten.
Download PDFAddition facts, practice 2
Two digit addition with answers from 14 to exactly 100, half of it needing a carry: 44 + 29, 68 + 17, 85 + 14.
Download PDFAddition facts, practice 3
Three digit sums now, 984 + 16 and 167 + 745 among them, with answers running from 243 all the way to 1000.
Download PDFSubtraction facts
Subtraction on the same ladder, from minuends under 19 up to 955. Half the items on the last sheet need a borrow from the tens column.
Subtraction facts, practice 1
Subtraction with nothing above 19 on it: 8 - 2, 17 - 9, 19 - 15, and eight items that drop below the ten.
Download PDFSubtraction facts, practice 2
Minuends climb to 100 here, so 100 - 95 and 63 - 62 sit alongside easy leftovers like 4 - 2 and 7 - 5.
Download PDFSubtraction facts, practice 3
Twenty of these forty three digit subtractions need a borrow, the largest being 955 - 489 and 951 - 14.
Download PDFMultiplication facts
Tables 2 to 5 on the first sheet, up to ten on the second, up to twelve on the third. What changes is the table, never the count: it is always forty.
Multiplication facts, practice 1
Only the 2, 3, 4 and 5 tables: sixteen distinct facts spread over forty slots, with 3 x 3 coming round five times.
Download PDFMultiplication facts, practice 2
Tables to ten in mixed order, where 9 x 7 and 7 x 9 both appear, as do 8 x 6 and 6 x 8.
Download PDFMultiplication facts, practice 3
The 11 and 12 rows arrive, 12 x 12 and 11 x 12 included, though only fourteen of the forty actually use them.
Download PDFDivision facts
The tables read backwards, with divisors of 2 to 5 at the start and 11 and 12 by the last sheet. Nothing on these three pages leaves a remainder.
Division facts, practice 1
Sixteen division facts from the 2 to 5 tables, repeated to fill forty lines, and 8 / 2 turns up five times.
Download PDFDivision facts, practice 2
Divisors run to ten here: 81 / 9, 72 / 8 and 49 / 7, with a few like 4 / 2 mixed in.
Download PDFDivision facts, practice 3
Eleven and twelve join the set, 144 / 12 and 132 / 11 the biggest, and every answer is still a whole number.
Download PDFForty facts on a page, nothing else
Every one of the twelve sheets has the same shape: a name and date line, one sentence of instruction, then forty facts laid out in four columns of ten with a ruled line after each equals sign. No pictures. No word problems. The thing being trained is recall speed, so the page stays out of the way, and a sheet works better as a five minute warm up than as a lesson.
The order the twelve sheets are built in
Four groups of three, and the practice number tells you the size of the numbers. Addition opens inside twenty (3 + 5, 9 + 9, 1 + 19), moves to two digit sums that top out at exactly 100, then to three digits with answers from 243 to 1000. Subtraction climbs the same ladder: minuends under 19, then up to 100, then up to 955. Multiplication practice 1 uses only the 2, 3, 4 and 5 tables, practice 2 reaches ten, practice 3 reaches twelve. Division mirrors that and finishes on 144 / 12 and 132 / 11.
What the first multiplication and division sheets actually are
Worth knowing before you print. Practice 1 in both of those groups is drawn from a pool of only sixteen facts, spread across forty slots, so items come round again: 3 x 3 appears five times on the multiplication sheet and 8 / 2 five times on the division one. That is repetition of a short set on purpose, not forty different questions. It suits a child still fixing the low tables, and it will bore one who has already met the 7s.
Where children stall on these
Carrying and borrowing, far more than the facts themselves. Twenty of the forty sums on addition practice 2 need a carry in the ones column, and twenty of the subtractions on practice 3 need a borrow from the tens. Answers that land on a round number get written short: 99 + 1 and 984 + 16 are the two to check first. After that, watch the items that cross a ten, like 8 + 7, 13 - 9 and 45 - 36.
